JAYSON STARKEY feels Cefn Druids finally have a reward for their belief and confidence.

Iwan Cartwright and Alex Darlington scored as the Ancients picked up their first win of the season at Caernarfon.

Five defeats and a draw from their opening six games under Bruno Lopes had left Druids at the foot of the table. But the Wrexham-based side refused to panic and rip up their new philosophy and style of play - a move that has been rewarded with a 2-1 win at The Oval.

"We always had belief and confidence that things would come good," said assistant head coach Starkey.

"We always felt that a win was coming and it's pleasing for Bruno, the squad, staff and everyone associated for Cefn Druids that it's arrived.

"There have been rumours about changing things, but we have belief in what we are trying to do, which is change the culture and environment as well as implementing a new style of play and philosophy.

"Even at 2-1 up, instead of trying to just play in Caernarfon's half, but we demanded that the players got the ball down and played the football which had got us into the position we were in.

"We've spoken about hunger and desire, and it's about getting that right and then trusting what we are trying to do when we have the ball."

Druids first win of the season came in their new away kit and on their maiden outing on grass this season.

"Those things have been mentioned and we were joking about making the new red shirt our home one and playing more games on grass," joked Starkey.

Caernarfon boss Huw Griffiths was disappointed to lose to his former club, tweeting: "Thanks for the support from outside the Oval - it was great! Gutted we couldn't give you the result you deserve. Back to the drawing board for the next game, we'll be ready for the challenge!"
