ANDREW SWARBRICK is determined that Chirk’s players will enjoy their welcome return to action.

A trip to Newtown is first up for Chirk as they begin their Division One John Rees Group action on this afternoon.

Swarbrick, pictured, is a fierce competitor, but he insists that he and his players will revel in their return to the middle.

“One thing I want to do in this little league is to enjoy playing cricket,” said the Chirk skipper. “I want to win every match by nature, but it’s important that we really enjoy the game. I think we’ve all under-estimated cricket over the past few years and only when it was taken away from us did we realise how important it is.

“For these 10 games I want us to play with a smile on our faces, and whatever the outcome, and appreciate that we’ve got cricket back.”

Swarbrick, who is able to name a strong side for his team’s return to action, also reserved praise for the Shropshire League.

“They’ve been brilliant,” said Swarbrick. “They’ve set the standard and helped keep clubs with a clear picture of what could be happening and when it might happen.”
