Wrexham AFC have confirmed that left-back James Jennings will be leaving the club, having decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Jennings, 32, was one of the players identified by the club who we would have opened up contract talks with when we had further guidance on when football would restart.

But the popular wing-back, who made more than 100 appearances for the Dragons, has decided to end his three-and-a-half year association with the club.

Speaking of his time at Wrexham, Jennings said: “I’ve loved every minute. From the minute I walked in, everyone has welcomed me – the same as they did with my brother.

“I already knew the club, because of Connor’s time there, and that always helped me.

“It’s a brilliant club and I’ve been really excited to pull on the shirt. I’d like to thank the fans for that, and Dean Keates for bringing me into the club back at the start.

"I'd also like to thank all the sponsors. I wish Dean and the players the very best for next season."

Jennings made 15 appearances on loan from Forest Green Rovers in 2017, before signing on a permanent deal in the summer.

Since July 2017, he has made a further 107 league appearances for the club, scoring ten goals and pulling on the captain’s armband on occasion. In total, Jennings made 134 appearances in all competitions for Wrexham.

In the 2019/20 season, Jennings played 34 times in all competitions and scored four goals.

“I would have loved to have won promotion, that was the goal when I signed and we got close on a couple of occasions, but I have enjoyed my time with the club on a personal note," he added.

“It’s been good to play in front of a lot of fans too – a lot of passionate fans.

Jennings’ 10 goals for Wrexham include a brilliant free-kick against Harrogate in this season’s away win. But when pushed he picked his fierce strike in the win against Solihull in December as his personal favourite of the ten he scored.

“It was such an important win at the time, against a very good team,” Jennings added.
