When the FAW announced the decision to end the Cymru Premier season due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not a big shock.

Yes, there were only six games left and some may argue that we could have finished the league properly within two weeks. But it was the correct decision in my opinion and everyone can now start rebuilding and preparing for a fresh start next season. You will never please everyone when making a huge decision like this.

For one, I don’t think The New Saints have much room to grumble, having lost five games and spent less time on top of the league than in their last eight title-winning campaigns. So hats off to Connah’s Quay!

You might say that the pressure at the business end of the season could have rattled Andy Morrison’s men, but being four points clear, it was theirs to lose. TNS have never lost five games since the league’s super 12 structure was brought in.

They are a club that would have fought to the end and had the experience of winning championships. But they were not as strong this time around and Connah’s Quay consistently kept the pressure on them – something they haven’t had in previous seasons.

So a massive congratulations is due to the Nomads, to Andy and his players. All the work he has put in, watching games, preparing, getting the squad to believe they could topple the champions this season has worked out.

I’m sure Craig Harrison, his assistant, will be quietly pleased as well, and he would have given a great insight into what makes the Saints tick. They have overcome all that and they are champions. The league table never lies. Connah’s Quay only lost two games, they conceded less than every other team and deserve to be crowned the winners.

Over the past five seasons, Andy has completely turned the club around and he should be so proud. I still can’t get my head around the fact that Connah’s Quay are into the Champions League qualifiers.

With the financial gain it will bring, it was going to be interesting to see what Andy’s next move would be and – bang! He’s gone and signed TNS’ most influential player and the Welsh Premier player of the decade, Aeron Edwards. What a statement of intent that is – over to you TNS.

Aeron is still the fittest player in the league and at the age of 32, he still has a lot to offer. He will give Connah’s Quay a different dimension to their style of play, when, and if, it’s needed.

Andy Morrison is a shrewd character, very meticulous in his short and long term plans. I hope that Connah’s Quay can keep hold of their leader, because it’s just a matter of time before someone gives him a big opportunity, and deservedly so. But for now, well done – however the season finished. It’s thoroughly deserved, I say. He out-bought, out-thought and out-fought the odds against him.

Watch this space for the moves ahead – it’s going to be an exciting to see who plays the next hand over the summer!

The EFL has been in such a mess making key decisions on how the Championship, League One and League Two should finish this season. And since League Two have decided to end their campaign, there has been no structure or plan for next season.

So I was pleased that someone was brave enough to come up with an idea of merging League Two and the National League, and splitting it into North and South regional divisions.

Now I feel that could be a great opportunity for Wrexham to lift themselves from last season’s doom and gloom and prove they are a club moving forward with this new format.

It’s a no-brainer financially, with less travelling. The problem could be in attracting the quality into the squad with their budget, but the local fixtures would attract bigger crowds. The Wrexham faithful would be there not matter what and this proposed structure could be just what the doctor ordered.

Covid-19 has left a lasting impression on us all, and what I’ve learned in this difficult time for everyone is never to expect, but there is always hope. I just hope that everyone comes out the other end. Stay Safe.
