KEVIN RUSSELL believes the sky’s the limit for Dan Jarvis.

The attacking midfielder was one of Dean Keates’ new recruits during the January transfer window, the 22-year-old joining Wrexham on an 18 month contract after leaving Stoke City.

During his time with the Championship club, Jarvis was a regular in the Potters’ under 23 side which is managed by Racecourse legend Russell.

Russell saw enough in Jarvis, who had spells where he was on the fringes of Stoke’s first team, to suggest he can have a very good career in the game and play at a much higher level than the National League.

“Dan has got everything in his armour to really kick on,” said Russell, who played almost 300 games in two stint spell with The Reds.

“He is a good player, he was always in and around the first team. He trained with them quite a bit but at times he flattered to deceive.

“But he has got the ability and the platform at Wrexham, which is a League One club at least.

“Dan has got all the attributes. He is a lovely footballer, got some nice touches, has got a good engine and can get up and down the pitch.

“He has got to get a little bit stronger but he will get that by playing men’s football.”

Russell felt Jarvis, who had been at The Brittania Stadium since the age of 12 and came through the youth ranks, needed to leave Stoke for the sake of his own career and test himself in senior football.

“He needed to get away to play men’s football and get the realisation of how important it is and how much a win means, but he has got everything to push on,” said Russell.

“He did brilliant for me, he was a good player in my team - very good at times - but he needed to move on for his own career.”

Jarvis made six appearances for relegation-threatened Wrexham before the season was suspended indefinitely because of the coronavirus crisis, scoring on his debut in the 3-0 win against Woking on January 18.
