SHAUN PEARSON believes it will be time to "start afresh" the longer that the season is suspended.

The campaign has been halted indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic and the National League has asked the Football Association for help in how to close down the season.

The Premier League is looking to resume playing when it is safe to do so but Wrexham captain Pearson says that won't be a feasible option in the fifth tier the longer the season is put on hold, and the focus should then turn to the 2020-21 campaign.

"Obviously our league is a bit different and they have got to make a decision either way pretty soon but the Premier League and Football League are talking about finishing the season when this calms down," said Pearson.

"But in my opinion, depending how long this goes on for, if you pass the end of June, July, August time, you get to a point where you say that season is done with and you start afresh.

"If this doesn't calm down for six months, can you really go back and finish the previous season?

"That wouldn't be something that I would be for personally. There has got to be a point where you say enough is enough and you move on.

"Until this all blows over, football just takes a back-step but hopefully it will be back sooner rather than later because football - in general! - brings a lot of happiness to people's lives."
