CEFN DRUIDS assistant boss Jayson Starkey feels that the current Cymru Premier campaign must be concluded.

The Ancients were vying with Cardiff Met for seventh spot, which brings about an end of season play-off place, when the Football Association of Wales suspended all action until at least April 30.

Druids have seven games of the season remaining and Starkey, who combines first-team duties with his role as head of the academy, feels it needs to be finished - even if it impacts the 2020/21 campaign.

“I believe we need to do everything in our power to conclude the season for the integrity of the league,” said Starkey. “The Premier League are exploring their options and the Cymru Premier might be slightly different in terms of financial benefits, but there needs to be promotion and relegation.

“And then there is the need to sort out Champions League and Europa League.

“If finishing this season impacts the next one then that is something we have to look at because this is not the normal day-to-day routine of life.

“I’m sure every team wants to finish this season.”

Druids are also keeping their players both physically and mentally fit with the country in lockdown and the season up in the air.

“We’ve put out home-based programmes, which stick to the guidelines set out by the Government,” said Starkey. “Levi Challoner, our head of performance, and I have spoken about what we needed the players to do.

“We are trying to look after the players physically, but we are also eager to look after the mental well-being of the lads.

“Some of the players live on their own or are self-employed and thankfully we’ve got a club chaplain offering support and advice if anyone needs it.

“The Whatsapp group is bouncing, which is great to see.”
