CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS have done the double as Andy Morrison and George Horan won the Cymru Premier manager and player of the month awards for February.

Nomads were in fantastic form during the month, which kicked off with Morrison's men lifting the League Cup courtesy of a 3-0 success over STM Sports at Latham Park, Michael Wilde scoring twice and Jamie Insall adding the other.

That was the catalyst for a faultless month in the league, Nomads securing crucial 1-0 victories over Barry Town United and title rivals The New Saints either side of a 4-0 success against Caernarfon.

Morrison was delighted to win the award, saying: "It was a great month for the club, winning the League Cup and three wins from three in the league. As I always say, it's a recognition of the work done by everyone and for me it should be the team of the month award."

Key to that cleansweep in February was Nomads' captain Horan, who scored twice in the victory over Caernarfon as well as marshalling a defence that failed to concede a single goal.

Morrison saluted Horan, who celebrated his 38th birthday during February, saying: "George winning Player of the Month in the month of his 38th birthday speaks volumes of his character.

"I knew George was a leader before I came to the club over four years ago - after speaking with him, he made it clear he was up for the challenge and demands I would put on him and the players.

"Four years later and he's been selected four times in the Cymru Premier Team of the Season as voted by the other managers in the league - this is all I need to say about George.

"For me, this has been his best season and I expect him to make it five consecutive nominations in the Team of the Season."

In the Cymru North, Colwyn Bay's Craig Hogg picked up the manager of the month award after two victories during the month, while Porthmadog's Shaun Cavanagh edged out Gresford loan striker Joe Chaplin and Bangor's Hugo Colace to take the player of the month honour.
