STEVE HALLIWELL is fully behind the Football Association of Wales’ decision to suspend domestic football.
The Gresford Athletic director of football, who has family members that suffer respiratory issues, insists that the health and well-being of the entire nation has to be the priority.
“My lad, who is five, and my mum suffer with respiratory complications and are both highly at risk,” said Halliwell, pictured above.
“It’s a worrying time, to be honest, and I agree with stopping the season, because health has to come first.
“It is painful to stop the season, but it’s definitely the right thing to do.”
The FAW have initially suspended the season until April 4, but with scale of the coronavirus pandemic unknown, Halliwell reckons the current campaign could be over.
“I personally feel that the season could be done,” continued Halliwell.
“If you look at the facts it seems like we’ve not had the worst of it yet.
“Everything is pointing to the fact that the suspension could extend from weeks into months.”
If the campaign was to end then Gresford would have successfully escaped Cymru North relegation, but Halliwell wants his side to fulfil their remaining eight games.
“I wouldn’t be okay with it ending now, but it’s about health,” said Halliwell. “I’m not sure anyone wants the season to be ended. It’s a strange feeling.
“It would be disappointing if the season was to be ended now after we’ve turned things around, but everything is up in the air.”
