MARK JONES has named his Wales C squad for this month’s clash against England C with Callum Roberts and Nathan Peate included.

Connah’s Quay Nomads’ full-back Roberts and Cefn Druids’ central defender Peate are part of a 20-man selection by Jones as they face their rivals in Caernarfon on Tuesday, March 24.

Roberts, who came on as a late substitute in last season’s 2-2 draw at Salford, said: “I’m delighted to have been named in the squad for the upcoming fixture against England C - it’s an honour to represent my country and I’m excited for the fixture.”

Former Wrexham youngster Leo Smith, midfielder Darren Thomas and goalkeeper Alex Ramsay make up the trio of Caernarfon players selected for the fixture.

There are five players apiece from Cardiff Met and Barry Town United. The men from the capital are represented by Dylan Rees, Emlyn Lewis, Joel Edwards, Will Evans and Eliot Evans, with Luke Cummings, Chris Hugh, Evan Press, Clayton Green and Kayne McLaggon the Barry contingent.

The New Saints have Aeron Edwards and Connor Roberts, on-loan at Aberystwyth, who have seen Lee Jenkins called-up.

Bala ace Chris Venables and Penybont’s Kane Owen complete the squad, which has no representatives from Airbus, Newtown or Carmarthen.

England C chief Paul Fairclough, meanwhile, is braced for a “wall of Welsh voices” as his side head to The Oval in just under a fortnight’s time.

“Wales have selected Caernarfon because it’s a hotbed of football,” Fairclough told the Non League Paper. “They’ve been selling tickets for a couple of months now so we’re expecting to be met by a wall of Welsh voices.”

While Wales have an open age group, England’s 16-man squad is under the age of 23.

Fairclough continued: “Wales are an open age group but our agenda is a bit different. We want to win, of course we do and the group I’ve picked are winners, but it’s an opportunity for us to get together and really enjoy a game of football.

“I could have gone down a much more physical route. Wales like to play football but because they are older they are strong men.

“So I could have picked a squad with that in mind but I don’t see that as my role, I haven’t picked a side to compete on that level. I’ve selected a group of technical players who will want to get the ball and play as much as we can. That’s why I enjoy this so much.”
