DEESIDE U13s enjoyed a successful debut at the Under 14s inter clubs competition as they reached the quarter finals of the tournament.
The youngsters, who were playing a year above, won four of their six group games to finish third in Pool A before losing out to Mold U14s in the last eight stage.
Deeside began the day with a deserved 10-6 victory over another side playing a year up in Mold U13s.
They then overcame Llandudno by the narrowest of margins in a nail biting 7-6 success before Holywell inflicted a 7-5 reverse on Deeside.
But the Under 13s bounced back with a commanding 14-5 win against Walis B and an 8-4 victory over Rhosnesni A.
Wrexham Diamonds inflicted a 16-10 defeat on Deeside, though, to leave them with a third place finish in Pool A of the tournament.
That set up an extraordinary quarter final clash with Mold U14s.
Deeside matched their older opponents goal for goal throughout the first half, before taking a surprise two goal lead in the second period.
But it was a lead that they couldn’t quite keep a hold of as Mold scored a winning goal right on the whistle to secure a dramatic 10-9 success.
