FLINT TOWN UNITED resigned a difficult fortnight to the history books by recording a 2-1 home win over Llanrhaeadr.

The Silkmen headed into the encounter having suffered back-to-back league and cup defeats to rivals Prestatyn Town.

But Niall McGuinness’s men rolled their sleeves up to return to winning ways courtesy of goals from Mark Cadwallader and Jacques Welsh, which meant Matthew Williams’ late effort was nothing more than a consolation.

“It wasn’t a classic,” said McGuinness, who picked up his August and November manager of the month awards at the game.

“We were trying to pick ourselves up after a tough couple of weeks in difficult conditions, so credit to the lads for winning the game.

“We were nowhere near our best, but we managed to get the three points that will help us turn a corner.”

Cadwallader gave Flint the lead against a strong wind in the first period, before Welsh capped off a move involving fellow substitutes Jordan Barrow and Brandon Burrows in the second-half.

“Caddy took his goal really well and gave us a platform,” said McGuinness, who added: “It was a good finish for the second goal and the only disappointment is conceding late on.”

Cadwallader and Foulkes also picked up their player of the month awards.

Leading scorer Cadwallader has won the award in September and October with skipper Foulkes taking the November honour.

Flint’s victory came the day after Prestatyn moved to within three wins of the title by beating Llangefni 3-0.

A penalty from Jordan Davies and second-half efforts by Zebb Edwards and Danny Davies secured victory for the visitors.

Fourth placed Guilsfield were also victorious as they won 2-1 at Conwy Borough.

Chris Cathrall and Jake Cook scored either side of Sean McCaffery’s leveller to win it for visiting Guilsfield.

Emmanuel Agyemang scored the only goal of the game as Bangor City were 1-0 winners at home to Ruthin Town.
