AIRBUS breathed new life in their survival battle by ending a 15-match winless run with victory at Carmarthen Town.

Having seen the other team in the bottom three, Penybont, record a surprise 2-0 victory over Cardiff Met, the pressure was on the Wingmen and hosts the Old Gold.

But Airbus produced a fine first-half performance to open up a three-goal lead, Niall Watson, Oli Lanceley and Ryan Edwards on target.

Liam Thomas pulled a goal back in the second period, but Airbus held firm to pick up their first win since beating Newtown 2-0 way back on October 19.

“It’s great,” said boss O’Shaughnessy of a welcome win. “We played really well, every man in the squad produced a good performance.

“We knew it would be a tough game against a side fighting with us at the bottom of the table, but we played well and should have scored a few more.”

Asked whether it had felt like nearly five months since Airbus last won, O’Shaughnessy replied: “No. We always take things one game at a time and performances have not really reflected results.”

Daniel Jefferies and Lewis Harling scored early in each half as Rhys Griffiths’ Penybont beat Cardiff Met to move three points clear of the drop zone ahead of their trip to Airbus next weekend.
