SIXTY-SEVEN years. That’s how long Chirk AAA have waited for a place in the Welsh Youth Cup final.

Mark Holmes impressive youngsters have the chance to end that long wait on Sunday as they tackle Newtown at The New Saints’ Park Hall in this season’s semi-finals.

Chirk’s last appearance in the final of the competition came in 1953 when the Colliers went on to beat Aberystwyth Town to lift the trophy.

Holmes will be hoping for a repeat of that success with his talented group of youngsters, who will be boosted by the return of defender Brad Pearce.

Pearce missed the quarter-final success over Pontardawe Town, in which prolific striker Harry Jones picked up a second booking in the competition, and subsequent ban.

With Jones absent, Owen Cordiner, pictured, scorer of the winner against Pontardawe, will be tasked with leading the line.

Should Chirk win the semi-final in Oswestry they will face either Barry Town United or The New Saints, the duo going head-to-head at Aberystwyth’s Park Hall in the other half of the draw.
