STUART GELLING wants Cefn Druids to stick to their game-plan rather than “become obsessed” with their opponents.

Gelling, who, earlier this week, offered a response to criticism of a pre-match interview ahead of the 4-0 Welsh Cup defeat to Caernarfon, wants Druids to try and stamp their authority on games - starting on Friday night at home to Aberystwyth Town.

“I’ve watched them and they look a decent team, who are useful going forward,” said head coach Gelling.

“But I think teams can become obsessed by the opposition and I want to try and focus on what we are trying to do.

“You need to do your homework, for sure, you need to know strengths and weaknesses of the opposition, but it’s important to try and play your game and try to achieve what you want to.”

Gelling is undergoing a crash course in Cymru Premier football after being thrown in at the deep end when asked to replace Huw Griffiths in the Druids’ hotseat last month.

The former Japan national team assistant boss has noticed one particular trend from his two games in charge - both of which finished in defeat - and hours of footage.

“Set-pieces seem to be massively important in this league,” said Gelling. “In any league they are important, but there is a real emphasis on them and we need to make sure we get them right at both ends.”

Harry Brazel (knee) and James Davies (shoulder) remain sidelined for Druids and Neil Ashton, pictured, is suspended after his dismissal in the 1-0 league defeat to Carmarthen, but Phil Mooney is pushing for a start after injury.
