FRUSTRATION was again the name of the game for Flint Town United as they exited the Welsh Cup at the hands of Prestatyn Town.

The Cymru North rivals went toe-to-toe during an entertaining quarter-final, but it was Neil Gibson's Prestatyn who secured a third successive win in all-competitions against Flint as Jack Kenny struck the only goal of the game minutes after coming off the bench.

After a slow start to proceedings, Dominic McHugh tested Jon Rushton, who was called into more serious action soon after, leaping to his left to tip a curling effort on the turn from Richie Foulkes over the crossbar.

Mark Cadwallader then tested Rushton down to his left, while Flint’s Stuart Jones came close at both ends, sending a header over his own bar before powering an effort wide of Prestatyn’s goal from a teasing corner kick.

Aaron Jones had to be quick of his line to deny Alex Jones opening the scoring for Prestatyn, who had another let off as Stuart Jones headed another chance wide on the stretch after a Prestatyn head diverted a corner just off course.

The lively Jordan Davies then went close on two occasions for Prestatyn, whistling an effort from the edge of the area over, before darting down the left, outpacing Tom Kemp and forcing Aaron Jones into a save low down.

The first two chances of the second period came as a result of sloppy defending, Cadwallader firing into the side-netting for Flint and Aaron Jones smartly denying Jordan Davies, who had only the keeper to beat.

The deadlock was finally broken just short of the hour mark as Jack Kenny, who had climbed off the bench just four minutes earlier, collected a knockdown and calmly fired into the far corner with his left-foot.

After a lull in goalmouth action, Flint went agonisingly close to a leveller as Callum Bratley twisted and turned in the Prestatyn box before flashing an effort agonisingly wide of the far upright.

Cadwallader, who went down in the area late on, sent another header wide as Flint were forced to accept defeat, the Silkmen missing out on the chance to face The New Saints, represented by assistant boss Steve Evans at the Essity Stadium, in the semi-finals.
