HUW GRIFFITHS insists that a place in the semi-finals for Caernarfon is all the motivation he needs to beat former club Cefn Druids tonight.

Griffiths and Druids parted company last month, the new Caernarfon boss lasting around three months as full-time sporting director at The Rock.

But rather than seek revenge for his contract termination, Griffiths is simply focused on trying to win a game of football, regardless of the expected sideshow surrounding a quickfire reunion with his former employers.

“I want to win every game I’m involved in,” said Griffiths. “It’s another game that I want to try and win and it just so happens that it’s against Druids, who are the team I support, but my allegiances are with Caernarfon and trying to get them into the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup.

“I don’t want to win this game any more than any other game and at the moment I have no real feelings towards the fact that we are coming up against Druids.

“If we win those feelings might kick in, but it’s about thinking with the head rather than the heart and getting the job right.”

Griffiths is relishing the chance to see his former players - all of whom he brought to The Rock - and the travelling Druids’ supporters.

“I will be quite glad to see the lads and the supporters,” said Griffiths. “It will be nice to see a few familiar faces that I didn’t get chance to say goodbye to before I left.

“I worked with some of the characters in the Druids camp for five, six or seven years, so it will be strange, but I’ve managed against some of those lads before.”

Given Griffiths’ in-depth knowledge of Druids, he’s expecting an entertaining cup clash this evening.

“They are a dangerous side,” said Griffiths. “It’s a tough fixture and with the emotions surrounding it, it makes it strange for both parties.

“It will be a tight game, though. There was a 1-1 draw at Caernarfon earlier in the season and Druids won 3-1 at home.

“It’s quite exciting for everybody and both sets of players will be wanting to win the game for their respective manager and club.

“It’s a cup game and hopefully there will be some cup fever with the Cofi Army out in full force.”

New Druids’ head coach Stuart Gelling, meanwhile, expects Griffiths to head into the game with more than rough guess about how the Ancients will set-up.

“I’m sure everything we do will get back to him,” said Gelling. “I know how football works, he’s still got friends at the club and there are no secrets.”

Griffiths believes those at Druids are “far too professional” to leak information, but regardless of who knows what prior to kick-off, Gelling is targeting an improved display from the one that saw the Ancients beaten 1-0 at Carmarthen last weekend.

“We were too easily beaten,” said Gelling. “Things take time, but we have to be better than we were last week to deal with a good side, we need more confidence on the ball.

Harry Brazel (knee) and James Davies (shoulder) are set to miss out for Druids, who hope Phil Mooney (ankle) is fit to return.
