DEESIDE U15s stunned the Under 16s regional qualifiers as the Flintshire side finished second in a competition they were playing up an age group to compete in.

The Under 15s beat every team in tournament and would have won the competition had it not been for a narrow defeat to the eventual champions, North Dragons.

With their second place finish, Deeside U15s have now qualified for the national competition alongside the other sides who finished in the top four.

Deeside U15s began the tournament with a 23-12 success over Wrexham Diamonds before a comfortable 14-4 victory over Holywell.

They then thumped Deeside B 22-2 in the game prior to their narrow 14-11 defeat to North Dragons.

But Deeside bounced back to record a 16-7 win over Llandudno before sealing a nail biting 15-14 victory over Rhosnesni.

The youngsters then rounded off the competition by thrashing Tim O Walis 31-3 in a scoreline which sealed their second place finish.

Meanwhile, in the Cheshire Elite League, Deeside picked up their second win in a row, and their third of the season as they romped to a big win over North West Panthers.

Deeside claimed an impressive 71-42 victory which takes the team eight points clear of Northwich U19s, but the Flintshire club are still seven points off Wilmslow Albion in seventh.

Elsewhere in the league, Chester Maroon went top of the table with a dominant 64-27 win over Macclesfield.
