TWO TEAMS representing North East Wales showed their netball quality as they both excelled in the Under 16s national inter-area competition.
The tournament, which was held at the Cardiff House of Sport, saw a host of talented players from around Flintshire and Wrexham attend.
Split into an ‘A’ and ‘B’ section, respectively, North East Wales A were ultimately made to pay the price for two narrow defeats, while the ‘B’ team went unbeaten to return as champions.
North East Wales A began with a comfortable 25-10 win over West Wales before a single turnover proved to be the difference as they then slipped to a 16-13 reverse against the South East.
The team bounced back, though, as they then went on to record back to back 17-11 and 19-7 victories over Afan Need Tawe and the North West.
It looked as though it would be three wins in a row at half time of their clash with Glamorgan Valleys as North East A led 12-11.
But the game turned in the second period as the eventual tournament winners ran out 22-19 winners in a tight game that came before North East’s 26-14 reverse to Cardiff Vale.
Meanwhile in the ‘B’ section of the tournament, North East Wales were proved to be unstoppable as they went unbeaten to be crowned U16 inter-area champions.
On their way to the final, the team recorded wins over North Powys, Cardiff Vale, South East, Afan Need Tawe, West Wales and North West Wales.
Glamorgan Valleys B were North East B’s opponents in the final, but like all before them the southern side were unable to prevent a 20-13 defeat.
