NIALL MCGUINNESS got what he wished for - a home draw - as Flint Town United were paired with Prestatyn Town in the Welsh Cup quarter-finals.

The Cymru North title rivals will go head-to-head at the Essity Stadium for a place in the last four of the competition on the weekend of February 28/29/March 1.

Ahead of the draw, McGuinness, who saw his side edge out Colwyn Bay 3-2 on Friday night, wanted Flint to be at home in the last eight.

He said: “A home draw. I don’t want anyone in particular, but a home draw would be fantastic.

“We’ve beaten Bala and Colwyn Bay, so let’s see what the next one brings and it gives us the chance to challenge ourselves again.”

Flint will also be looking to exact revenge on Prestatyn, who won 3-2 in Flintshire earlier in the season.

Connah’s Quay Nomads, beaten finalists last season, have also been handed a home tie as Cardiff Met head north.

Andy Morrison, who saw Nomads draw 1-1 at home to Cardiff Met in the Cymru Premier earlier this season, said: “In the cup, all we can hope for is a home game where our record is fantastic - we’ve shown this season that it will take a very good team to beat us.”

Cefn Druids were unable to make it a hat-trick of home draws as they were handed a trip to Sean Eardley's Caernarfon Town.

Druids secured a place in the last eight for the first time since reaching the final back in 2012 by defeating lower league Pontardawe 2-0 on Saturday, Jamie Reed, pictured, scoring twice.

Morgan Daykin, a first year academy scholar, made his full debut for Druids in the last 16, and his progress has been rewarded with a first team professional contract.

“Age doesn’t influence me when it comes to selecting my team for matchday” said sporting director Huw Griffiths.

Druids assistant manager and academy director Jayson Starkey added: “It’s an extremely proud moment for myself and all the academy staff seeing Morgan rewarded with his first professional contract.”
