A NETBALL side representing the North East Wales region went unbeaten to win the National Under 18 Inter Area tournament at Bangor University.

Featuring five players from Deeside Netball Club, including Mollie Underhill who was recently selected for the Wales U21 squad for 2020, North East Wales avoided defeat against nine other sides to claim the title.

They pipped the southern based sides Cardiff and Vale A, and Glamorgan Valleys A – who came second and third respectively – to the crown.

Speaking after the first competition of 2020, Welsh Netball’s Events & Competitions Officer Tori Roberts-Burt said: “It was a great start to the new year of competitions with some really competitive games and a very enjoyable day of netball.

“Thank you to all of the umpires, coaches, players and spectators who came to support the tournament and congratulations to North East Wales A.”

Welsh Netball’s next national tournament will be the Under 16’s Inter Area Competition that takes place on Saturday, February 1 at the House of Sport in Cardiff.

The final placings for the 2020 Under 18 Inter Area tournament were:

North East Wales, Cardiff and Vale A, Glamorgan Valleys A, North West Wales A, West Wales A, South East Wales A, Glamorgan Valleys B, Cardiff and Vale B, West Wales B, South East Wales B.
