SION TUDOR JONES insists there will be “absolutely no excuses” if Corwen fail to win their crunch Cymru North basement battle with Llanfair United.

Rock-bottom Llanfair have only picked up two points all season - one of those came in a 2-2 draw at home to Corwen in September - leaving them six points adrift of Jones’ men, who are a further seven from safety.

Jones knows that all of Corwen’s remaining 15 games are “massive”, but this afternoon’s clash is as winnable a fixture as his side are going to have between now and the end of the season.

“We need to gain momentum by getting three points sooner rather than later,” said Jones. “There will be absolutely no excuses if we can’t get three points against Llanfair, and if we don’t then we probably deserve to go down.

“That’s the way I look at it because they are the team at the bottom of the table.”

Scott Evans is absent for Corwen, who will give Harry Pooler a late check, with Jones adding: “We will go out there with a game-plan and then it’s about whether this great group of lads can deliver or not.”

Fourth from bottom Buckley Town can climb away from danger with a home success over Llangefni this afternoon.

The Flintshire outfit were beaten 3-0 at Flint Town United on Saturday, action pictured, and boss Dan Moore is hoping for an improved display.

“The only possible positives to take from the game is that we’ve played our first game for over a month and I’m pleased it’s been a test against very good opposition and a team who we are not in direct competition with, in terms of the league table,” said Moore. “We’ve now got an important home fixture against Llangefni.

“We’ll approach the game positively after picking up minutes on Saturday and look to improve on the areas we’ve fallen short in.”

Leaders Prestatyn can extend their advantage over Flint with a positive result at third placed Colwyn Bay, while Eddie Maurice-Jones’ Rhyl entertain Llanrhaeadr, Penrhyncoch visit Guilsfield and Conwy tackle Llandudno.
