JJ HOOPER admits Wrexham need to break their away-day hoodoo as quickly as possible to give themselves the best possible chance in the fight against relegation.

Dean Keates’ side go into today’s clash against fellow strugglers Chorley at Victory Park with just one win in 14 outings on their travels this season, with the Reds suffering 10 defeats.

That woeful form leaves Wrexham fourth form bottom in the National League, one point adrift of safety, and Hooper knows it needs addressing quickly in the quest for survival.

“We have got to get that consistency, especially away from home,” said Hooper.

“At home we are quite good and hard to break down but we have to find it away from home now.

“Once we break that I think we will be alright but we need to break it sooner rather than later.

“Chorley would be the perfect place to break it and get another away win so that is what we are aiming to do.”

Wrexham bounced back from a 3-1 defeat against Sutton at the start of the festive period by beating Chorley by the same score on Boxing Day but the Reds then lost 2-0 at Maidenhead United on Saturday.

Both goals could have been avoided while Wrexham only had one shot on target and Hooper, who scored twice in the first meeting with Chorley, knows the players need to make amends for the below par performance in the return encounter.

“It was nice to get two goals against Chorley but obviously the most important thing was the result,” said Hooper, who took his tally for the season to five with his brace on Boxing Day.

“It was very disappointing that we could not build on that result against Maidenhead.

“We let the fans down and we let ourselves down but the only thing we can do now is make it right at Chorley.

“No-one likes losing games and no-one wants to lose games so we just want to get that winning feeling back as much as we can.

“Chorley is a massive game, they are all massive games.

“We are away from home and we have to make sure we are solid and we take our chances when we get them.

“It was a frustrating game for me at Maidenhead but that happens so we have got to go and make it right at Chorley.”
