DEE-FIRE bounced back from their recent derby day defeat to the Deeside Dazzlers by inflicting just a third loss of the season on a highflying Mold Ravens side.

The win is only Dee-Fire’s second in Division Two of the NEWNA Senior League so far with the group of under 16-year olds playing open aged netball for the first time.

But the long overdue victory comes after Dee-Fire suffered agonisingly narrow defeats – by less than four goals – in three of their last four outings, including last week’s 38-36 loss to the Dazzlers.

Deeside started brightly and had a 12-8 lead by the end of the first quarter before the division’s second top scorers hit back in a ruthless second period to give them a 17-13 half-time lead.

The scores remained tight going into the final quarter until a subtle change to the team saw Dee-Fire score 14 goals in the final period to eventually claim a 44-35 win with Lexi Jones taking home the player of the match award for her defensive performance.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Deeside Devils came out on top against Holywell Hotshots in a 60-53 win that keeps them in third place, while Deeside Demons stay a point behind them after they saw off Colwyn Sports in a 49-32 success.

League leaders, Harlequins, stay unbeaten after they claimed a 68-43 victory over North East Eagles, while second-placed Mold Dragon hammered Holywell Hawks 75-15.

Firebirds will be top of Division Three for Christmas with their 62-23 success over Mold Hawks extending their perfect record so far this season.

Holywell Hurricanes comfortably beat Holywell Hustlers 46-9, while another Holwell derby game saw the Highlights claim a 37-29 win over the Highfliers.

In the league’s only other game, Mold Swift stay third after they recorded a 30-17 victory over Ruthin Ladies.
