SHAUN PEARSON has labelled Wrexham's festive period as "potentially season-changing" in the fight against relegation.

Dean Keates' side play five huge games in the space of a fortnight against teams in and around the fourth bottom Reds who are one point adrift of National League safety.

Wrexham kick-off the run of matches with Saturday's trip to 19th placed Sutton and the Reds have a double header against basement outfit Chorley on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

In between the Chorley fixtures, Wrexham go to Maidenhead who are only five points above the drop zone before returning to The Racecourse for a home match against Aldershot - the side immediately outside the bottom four - on January 4.

With 15 points up for grabs in a short space of time, Reds captain Pearson admits there is a lot riding on the Christmas period.

"It is huge and it could be season-turning for us with so many games in a short period of space," said Pearson.

"If we were to win four out of the five games, or all five games, then that is potentially season-changing for you.

"Obviously at the same time, if we lose four out of the five, we will be stuck right at the bottom and if we win a couple, we will probably get out of the bottom four which is our target first and foremost.

"We will be taking it one game at a time, it is Sutton first and hopefully we can get a win and build on the last two victories."

Wrexham climbed off the bottom of the table after beating Eastleigh 2-0 two weeks ago to register a first away win of the season and then overcame high-flying Solihull Moors by the same scoreline in the last league outing.

Pearson says spirits are high in the camp going into the clash against Sutton at Gander Green Lane when Wrexham will aim to make it a hat-trick of victories.

"There is definitely a bit more confidence in the side from the last couple of games," said Pearson.

"Hopefully we can replicate the last couple of performances and that will be enough to win the game.

"If not, we want to take a point at worst but it would be great to get three points to start off a period which as I say is potentially season-changing for us."

On-loan winger Omari Patrick was used in attack for the last two games and scored three goals, but Pearson feels other players have benefitted from the change.

"A big difference is having Omari up the top end of the pitch with pace which has really helped us," added Pearson.

"Not only is he benefitting from that, it is creating space for other players; the second goal at Eastleigh when Bobby Grant gets in the pocket, it's a great first touch, a great through-ball and Omari puts it away.

"As a defender, when we have not had the pace up there, sometimes it is hard to release the pressure whereas we know now that we can knock the ball in the corner and we have got that pace which is going to threaten teams in behind.

"We can relieve the pressure and get up the pitch ourselves."
