WREXHAM'S 'second string' were knocked out of the FA Trophy after losing 4-0 at Halifax Town.

Manager Dean Keates rested his regulars with fringe players and youth teamers named in the side at The Shay.

The Shaymen took an early lead and made it 2-0 at the start of the second half before returning striker JJ Hooper had a penalty saved.

It was game over then as Halifax scored a third goal and after Reds frontman Leighton McIntosh was sent off following a lunging challenge, a late fourth goal secured the home side's place in the second round.

Here's how the players rated:

CHRISTIAN DIBBLE: Beaten four times but kept the score down with some vital saves. 6

TYLER REID: Back after injury and lack of game-time showed but made some in-roads down the right. 6

MAX CLEWORTH: Old shoulders on a young head as the centre-back impressed, made some key tackles. 6

BOBBY BEAUMONT: The other young centre-back also did well as Halifax caused lots of problems. 6

JAZZI BARNUM-BOBB: Switched to the left of defence but had a difficult afternoon. 5

MARK HARRIS: Didn't get much joy down the right and squandered a rare chance. 5

DEVONTE REDMOND: Tried to make things happen in the centre of midfield and brought a rare save out of Johnson. 6

ADAM BARTON: Back after injury but the midfield was over-run in the second half. 5

BEN TOLLITT: Failed to make much of an impact on the left flank after earning starting place. 5

JJ HOOPER: Had a couple of half chances in the first half but lacked conviction with his penalty. 6
