MIKE CUNNINGHAM felt his players did Mold Alex proud as they were beaten 9-0 by holders The New Saints.

The top-flight Saints headed into the contest having thumped Airbus 12-0 a week earlier.

But Mold came away with their heads held high after going toe-to-toe with Scott Ruscoe’s full-time outfit on home turf.

“You can say what like being beaten by a high scoreline but the lads, who are local group of players, are always going to be heavily challenged playing against full-time professionals.

“You can’t take anything away from us at all, we were outstanding and put in an admirable effort.

“Each and every player in blue gave 100 per cent and have done the club proud.”

Kurtis Byrne led the scoring for Saints with four goals, while Greg Draper bagged a brace and Danny Redmond, Kane Lewis and Blaine Hudson completed the rout.

Boss Ruscoe was pleased with his side’s display, saying: “It was nice to get a good scoreline, concede no goals and move the ball excellently with a quick tempo, finding passes and our end product was excellent.

“I said before the game we wanted good habits, professionalism, ruthlessness and no slip ups.”
