HUW GRIFFITHS insists that no-one at Cefn Druids is focusing on a top-six finish.

Druids have propelled themselves into the top-six picture courtesy of successive victories over Caernarfon, Penybont and Carmarthen Town.

Last week’s postponed home clash with Cardiff Met curtailed Druids progress, but sporting director Griffiths is warning against his players getting carried away by the thought of a second Europa League campaign in three seasons.

“We’ve got 10 games until the split and seven are against teams in the top-six,” said Griffiths.

“When you realise you’ve only got three games against teams in the bottom half of the table before the split it changes your outlook.

“I am still looking at the fact that we are still 20 points from safety.

“When we are on our game we are more than capable of beating any team in the league, but when we aren’t we are capable of losing to any team.

“We are striving for consistency, which we have found in recent weeks.”

Druids return to action tomorrow as second placed Barry Town United visit The Rock looking to avenge their 4-0 thumping at the hands of title rivals Connah’s Quay.

“They are a top team and they are up near the top for a reason,” said Griffiths. “They’ve got some great footballers and they will be reeling a little bit after the last few weeks.

“Is it a good time or a bad time to play them? I don’t know, but they will be a wounded animal.”

Griffiths’ opposite number, Gavin Chesterfield, is excited to see what his players can produce after heavy defeats to Nomads and Caernarfon.

“The last two weeks we haven’t been ourselves really,” said Chesterfield. “We are a humble, hard working, honest team that’s got some really good players and in the last two weeks we’ve probably gone away from that.

“We’ve certainly been through worse than this and come out the other end and as a manager I’m really excited to see what the boys put up.”

Barry look set to be without on-loan Cardiff City stopper George Ratcliffe, who has been called into Wales Under-21s squad, while Druids are missing midfielder Alec Mudimu, pictured, as he looks to help Zimbabwe in African Cup of Nations qualifying.
