DEAN KEATES believes having a free week and an extra day between games has given Wrexham the possible chance of causing an FA Cup upset.

Wrexham ended a six-game winless run by beating league leaders Bromley 1-0 on Saturday, leaving the Reds two points adrift of safety.

The attention turns to the famous cup competition on Sunday with Wrexham facing League One Rochdale at The Racecourse.

Keates feels his players will benefit from having a full week to prepare on the training ground, and an extra day between games.

"We have had an extra day recovery, it has been an eight day week with it being Saturday to Sunday," said Keates.

"We will make use of that and it has been good not having a midweek game.

"Since I have come in, we had one free week but we ended up drawing the cup game against Chesterfield so we have been Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday.

"It has been more recovery in between games and not being able to do too much on the training ground, so it has been a good week, we have put it to good use."

Keates wants his players to seize the moment and try to cause an upset against Dale.

"It is the most famous cup in the world," said Keates.

"It gives everybody that feel-good factor when it starts and you always want to be that giantkiller.

"I had good days as a player in it and I have had bad days as well, but the fond one for myself was the opportunity to go and play at Old Trafford many years ago."
