JUNIOR netball teams from Deeside enjoyed a positive start to the new season, with many recording opening day wins.

This year, Deeside will have 15 youth teams representing them across seven age groups from under 9s to under 15s.

Deeside Dots got off to a great start to their U12s season as they beat Wrexham Opals 14-5 in their first fixture, with Hollie Owen claiming the player of the match award.

In the U13s section, Deeside Dace and Dragonflies also enjoyed winning starts.

Laura Haden was influential as she helped the Dace to a 16-6 success over Chester Bandits, while Sophie Woosey impressed as the Dragonflies narrowly overcame Mold Dragons 11-10.

Deeside Diamonds U14s came back from 10-7 down at half-time to eventually secure a 17-16 victory over Mold Hawks in a very closely contested fixture where Holly Hughes picked up the player of the match award.

Elsewhere in the under 14s age category, Deeside Dixies and Deeside Doves weren’t quite as fortunate with their results.

Despite battling hard and playing good quality netball at times, the Dixies fell to a 34-11 loss to Wrexham while the Doves were beaten 31-4 by Chester Raiders.

The impressive Deeside DJs continued from where they left off as last year’s champions overcame Chester Wolves 19-9 in the U15s section.

Amelia Duff claimed the player of the match award for her incredible defensive work in restricting Chester to a single figure score.

Lexi Jones starred as the Deeside Dominoes U15s also began their season with a win over Chester as they helped themselves to a 30-20 win over the Lions.

Elsewhere in the U15s, Deeside Darts played their first game together and showed promise for the future although the team lost out 29-6 to Mold Owls.
