HOLYWELL TOWN have lifted the Welsh Trophy twice in the last 10 years they set off in search of the hat-trick at Hawarden Rangers on Saturday.

Boss John Haseldin, who remembers well the victories against Conwy in 2011 and Penrhyndeudraeth in 2015, said: “We are really looking forward to the game as it is a special competition that we want to do well in.

“It means a lot to myself, the club and the supporters having won it twice over the years so I’m sure they will be out in their numbers.

“It’s a tricky away tie so we will need to make sure we are all focused on getting the job done and making sure its our name in the hat for the next round.”

Hawarden have enjoyed a good start to the season and top the Welsh National League’s Division One table heading into the tie.

Jason Renshaw and Jack Pennington miss out for the Wellmen but Mike Platt, Mark Connolly, Phil Lloyd, Jake Cooke and Sam Jones are back.

Trophy holders Cefn Albion kick off the action tonight at The Rock where Lex XI are the visitors.

Albion fans are still talking about last season’s 4-0 thumping of Pontardawe Town in the final and they’ll want to repeat that stunning cup run this time around.

Influential forwards Jimmy Jones and Danny Holland are ruled out but defender Nic Jones and striker Alex Williams should return.

Lex boss Jason Whalley hopes Lee Bent will shake off a calf injury while Phil Stott, Danny Geddes and James Gibney could also feature.

Zack Price is out while keeper Jamie Griffiths is pushing for a start after returning to training following the completion of the cricket season.

Chirk AAA are third on the list for the most successful teams in the history of the competition but face a stiff test if they are to repeat the Trophy success of 2017.

Chirk head to Queen’s Park, whose boss Dave Evans is checking on the fitness of a number of key players, including keeper Joey Jones, striker Niall Challoner and playmaker Tony Jones.

“Team selection is hampered by the likely unavailability of Mikey Latham, Aled Powell, Tristan Wagner and Andrew Elms,” said boss Dave Evans.

“There will be a call up for Luke Hughes who will now have the chance to cement a place in the first team now that Matty Williams has left.

“We know this will be a tricky game and after bowing out of the competition early last year we will be looking for better fortunes.”

Mark Holmes is back as Chirk boss and he said: “I don’t intend making many changes but added to the squad will be Mathew Sargent, Aaron Roberts and Alex Edwards.”

North East Wales League side Chirk Town have conceded ground advantage and travel to Llanuwchllyn, who could be without Rob Dascalu.

Acton are also flying the flag for the North East Wales League and have a home tie against Mynydd Isa Spartans whose boss James Hollyoak welcomes back Mark Atkinson and Mike Whales but Shaun Billingsley is definitely out.

The tie of the round is on the English/Welsh border as Mold Alex head to Saltney Town.

Mold are managed by former Saltney boss Mike Cunningham, who has re-signed Steve Watkins in time to play.

Kevin Day could also return for Mold but Dave Bryan, Lee Jones and Nathan Lavender are all out.

Rabih Jumaa’s hamstring injury could rule him out for Saltney for whom Scott Beach and skipper Ben Evans require fitness tests.

Ste Chiocchi is away on honeymoon but the Bordermen do welcome back Dan Burgess.

Rhostyllen have a home derby date with Rhosllanerchrugog and manager Warren Duckett may have to pull on the boots because of an injury list that includes Lee Killen, Kev Roberts, Rob Gibson, Ash Ryan and James Trigg.

Rhos boss Mike McLellan said: “Their captain Drew Wickens was our captain last season so it makes for an interesting game.”

Just up the road at Ponciau Banks, Rhos Aelwyd have Jake Simms, Scott Reeves, Aled Dodd, Daf Robertson and Dan Eccles back for the visit of Castell Alun Colts for whom Nathan Davies, Josh Coleclough, Rich Hamer and Rob Ward miss out. Jack Carden and Arthur Doo return.

Brickfield Rangers face Rhydymwyn with Max Northall keeping his place while Overton Rec welcome New Brighton Villa whose boss Dave Roberts recalls Braden Lavin and Max Quinn to the defence and Jack Neal and Nick Manning in midfield.

Striker Ross Sumner is in line for his first appearance of the season but ruled out are James Beck, Jack Heppleston, Ste Orsler, Paul Rambaldi and Aaron Davies.

For their local derby with Cefn Mawr Rangers, Llangollen will be without Gwilym Keddie, George Gooding and Ben Realley.

Plas Madoc, who went all the way to the quarter-finals last season, entertain Llay Welfare.

Goalkeeper Jacko Edwards and Shaun Valentine return for Madoc while Llay boss Mike Gadie said: “We should be somewhere near full strength with Ryan Goodband set to start for the first time this season. Tom Wells and Dean Bryan are doubts while Jack Edwards could feature.”
