VICTORY at Llanrhaeadr will leave Gresford Athletic on the right track, according to director of football Steve Halliwell.

And that’s because Halliwell and his coaching staff targeted six points from the opening four games of the season.

Defeats to Llangefni and Prestatyn have sandwiched last weekend’s impressive victory over Llandudno, meaning Gresford will achieve their early season target with a win at Llanrhaeadr.

“We are not too downhearted,” said Halliwell. “We targeted six points from our four games. We might have folded at Llangefni, but we managed to beat Llandudno.”

Corwen experienced a small, tight pitch with "grass longer than normal" at Llanrhaeadr on Tuesday, a review Halliwell wasn’t surprised to hear.

“It will be a different game to the one against Prestatyn,” explained Halliwell. “It will be a different type of test for us going there, but we are confident that we can go there and get something.”

Ashton Williams, pictured, misses the trip through suspension, while Jack Chaloner, Jack Jones and Jake Eyre are also sidelined with Joe Davies facing a late check.

“We will regroup,” added Halliwell, who is able to call on the services of Aaron Edwards.

“We will still have a core of 12/13 lads and we are able to pull a couple of players up from the reserves as well.”

Former Gresford boss, Eddie Maurice-Jones, will be looking for Rhyl to bounce back from a midweek 2-0 defeat at Llandudno by ending early pacesetters Prestatyn’s perfect start to the campaign.

“We need a reaction, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves,” said Maurice-Jones. “We have got the quality to give them a game.”

Bangor City boss Stephen Vaughan Jnr, meanwhile, is seeking improvements as his side head to Porthmadog tomorrow.

The Citizens defeated Buckley 3-1 on Tuesday with Vaughan telling Bangor’s official website: “I still would have liked to have been in complete control of the game towards the end and there are still lots of improvements that can be made by the group.”
