ANDY MORRISON knows Connah’s Quay Nomads must “sharpen up” if they are to end their frustrations in-front of goal.

Carmarthen visit the Deeside Stadium today with Nomads held to a goalless draw at Caernarfon Town on Friday, which followed on the back of a 1-1 stalemate against Cardiff Met.

Nomads boss Morrison, who watched Cove Rangers beat Stirling Albion on Saturday, in preparation for the Scottish Challenge Cup, said: “You can do as many practice drills or finishing drills as you want, they’re irrelevant because they are unopposed, but when you are in the box at those key moments you need to put them away.

“We will continue to work on that area of our game and we need to sharpen up quickly because points are slipping away.”

Morrison and Nomads will be targeting all three points from Carmarthen, who have lost both matches this season, but the former Manchester City skipper knows it won’t be an easy task.

“It will be a tough game against Carmarthen,” he continued. “We need to come up with a game plan to play against what I think is a very good Carmarthen team.”

Morrison will be hoping for better fortune with decisions after Nomads had what he felt was a clear penalty turned down, before Caernarfon were given a spot-kick of their own - incorrectly in the 49-year-old’s opinion.

Thankfully for Nomads, Leo Smith’s effort struck the post and rebounded to safety.

“You’ll say we were fortunate after giving a penalty away, but we’ve looked at it and, 100 per cent, it’s an incredible challenge from our player to get to the ball first,” said Morrison.

“He wins the ball cleanly and pushes it away, but their lad runs into him, so it’s a foul on Callum (Morris), and a penalty is given.

“I’ve got a yellow card for my vociferous anger because everyone in the ground can see their lad lift his arm over his head and punch the ball - it’s staggering how that penalty isn’t given.”

Carmarthen were beaten 2-1 by Newtown, who struck through Nick Rushton and Ian Sheridan.
