STEVE HALLIWELL compared Gresford Athletic to “a dog with a bone” as they crushed Llandudno 4-1.

Strikes from Jake Eyre, Joe Culshaw and Jack Chaloner put Gresford 3-0 up at the break, before Jordan MacCarter added number four after Llandudno had pulled a goal back through Bryan Roberts.

It was a performance in stark contrast to the one produced by Gresford in a “horrendous” 2-0 defeat at Llangefni a week earlier, and director of football Halliwell was delighted.

“It was very good, especially after last week,” said Halliwell. “We had two good sessions in the week, and we enjoyed ourselves on a nice pitch with nice weather.

“We were expecting a tough game and we knew Llandudno have got good attacking players, but we also knew that we could get at them at the back.

“I felt we had a chance of winning and in the first 45 minutes we were like a dog with a bone, we were relentless and that was the pleasing thing for all of the coaching staff.”

The only downside for Gresford was the dismissal of Chaloner, who received a second yellow card in bizarre circumstances.

“Jack has injured himself and rolled off the pitch,” explained Halliwell. “He’s then rolled back on and been shown a second yellow.

“It was disappointing. He’s injured his ankle ligaments and looks set to be sidelined for a few weeks.”

Gresford are back in action tomorrow night at Prestatyn, who made it two wins from two by beating Corwen 6-1.

There was little in the contest heading into half-time as Corwen’s David Williams had cancelled out Jordan Davies’ opener for Prestatyn.

But disaster struck as Corwen conceded two penalties in the space of three minutes, Rob Hughes converting both to hand Prestatyn a 3-1 lead. Hughes, Jack Kenny and Danny Davies added further efforts for table-topping Prestatyn after the interval.

Corwen may have been heavily beaten on paper, but boss Danny Jellicoe was encouraged by large parts of his side’s performance.

“For 38 minutes we did really well,” said Jellicoe. “Then we conceded a penalty, which was debatable at best, and then conceded another one a couple of minutes later and that changes everything.

“For 38 minutes if was a good game and we can take heart from this performance and the other three we’ve played this season.”

Corwen will return to action tomorrow night at Llanrhaeadr, who won 2-0 at Guilsfield courtesy of a brace by Matty Williams.

Llyr Morris and Gwydion Ifan scored as Chris Hardy started life as Ruthin Town boss with a 2-1 win at Penrhyncoch, while Rhyl won by the same scoreline at home to Llangefni, James Murphy and Sam Molyneux on target.
