DANNY JELLICOE can’t wait for Corwen to lock horns with Prestatyn Town tonight.

After beating Berriew 2-0 in the first round of the Cymru Premier League Cup, Corwen have had it tough, facing Caernarfon in the second round, before kicking off their Cymru North campaign at recently relegated Llandudno, pictured right.

It doesn’t get any easier for Corwen this evening as expected title challengers Prestatyn head to the War Memorial Ground, but boss Jellicoe is relishing the test.

“It’s been really good,” said Jellicoe of the tough start. “We are looking forward to every game because it has been 20-odd years since Corwen were at this level.

“It’s our first home game of the season against Prestatyn, who will bring a fair few supporters, so this is exactly the type of game we want to be involved in.”

What differences has Jellicoe spotted in the Welsh National League Premier Division and the new-look Cymru North?

“We’ve done alright against Caernarfon and Llandudno where we’ve competed for big chunks of the game,” said Jellicoe. “I always thought the physicality would increase and the technical side would be better, and so it’s proved.

“The games we’ve played have given us plenty of confidence and we just need to work on being clinical in both boxes.”

Bangor City finally get their season up and running as they visit Conwy Borough tomorrow.

The Citizens successfully appealed a points deduction to avoid relegation, and boss Steven Vaughan Jr is looking forward to focusing on football.

He told Bangor’s official website: “It’s now time to start playing some football, to put this behind us and begin our league programme.

“We’ve prepared well and the lads have been excellent in not letting anything but football come into their minds. They’re raring to go.”

Ruthin will be led into action at Penrhyncoch tomorrow by new manager Chris Hardy, who has replaced the outgoing Chris Williams at the helm.

“I’m extremely honoured and excited to take on this role,” said Hardy after Williams stepped down earlier this week.
