STEVE HALLIWELL insists that Gresford Athletic can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves as they head to Llandudno tomorrow.

The Wrexham-based outfit produced an “abysmal” performance at Llangefni Town, the second-tier new boys securing a 2-0 home success on the opening weekend of the league campaign.

And director of football Halliwell is seeking a dramatic improvement against the former Cymru Premier outfit.

“We need a massive improvement against Llandudno and then Prestatyn,” said Halliwell. “We’ve got two teams who will be challenging for the top-six coming up and we are looking for a reaction.

“It’s important that we get together and go and have a go at Llandudno, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, because it will be a long afternoon if we do.”

Halliwell led a post-match inquest after the Llangefni loss, which helped clear the air.

“We didn’t hold anything back,” continued Halliwell. “The lads know it’s not acceptable and we are in for a long hard season if that’s the level we are going to play to.”

Unsurprisingly, given his anger at last week’s performance against Llangefni, Halliwell is set to make changes to his starting XI at Llandudno.

“There will be changes,” declared Halliwell. “I said to the lads at half-time last week that if I’d had been able to make 11 subs then I would have.

“No-one can complain at being left out, but it’s now about moving forward as a group.”
