ANDY MORRISON hailed a "fantastic" result after Connah's Quay Nomads beat Cefn Druids 2-1 to maintain their place at the top of the Welsh Premier League.

The two teams traded eye-catching strikes as Michael Bakare's curled effort into the top corner for Nomads was cancelled out by Druids striker Dean Rittenberg's 25-yard half-volley.

But Nomads picked up an important three points when Danny Holmes was fouled in the area and Callum Morris calmly converted the resulting penalty.

Nomads boss Morrison was delighted with his side's 11th win of the campaign.

"It's always a very, very difficult place to come," said Morrison. "Huw sets his team up well and they never fail to turn up, they are always at it and we knew it would be a tough game.

"It was the right result. Make no mistake, it's the right result again.

"We've got into some fantastic positions in the first-half and we've wasted them with poor decisions, but Bak's has scored a terrific goal.

"They've then scored a wonder goal, which comes absolutely against the run of play. It's a 25-yard half-volley with his left foot and you couldn't make it up.

"That was frustrating, but it's a great reaction from us.

"Danny has made a terrific run forward - and it is a penalty.

"We've got to be pleased because Druids will take a lot of points off teams here."

Morrison felt Nomads could have made the game a little less tense with time running out, but Nathan Peate's challenge on Bakare failed to materialise in a penalty.

"The second penalty is so blatantly obvious, especially when you walk off the pitch and their player says he wiped him out," added Morrison. "I find that really frustrating."

But Druids boss Huw Griffiths felt the home side were denied a penalty of their own in the first-half.

He said: "Their penalty was a penalty and the should have had a second one, but we should have had one of our own."

Griffiths was encouraged by his side's performance, but rued the failure to pick up any points.

"It was a pretty even game," said Griffiths. "Andy said that he thought his side deserved to win, but I disagree.

"They had more possession in the first-half, but we had more in the second-half and neither goalkeeper has had many saves to make.

"There was very, very little between the two teams and I was pleased with the performance.

"It's encouraging to know that we can compete with the better sides in the league, but we were on the wrong side of the result.

"The game was decided by small margins and the lads put in a good shift."
