FLINT TOWN UNITED boss Niall McGuinness was left frustrated as the lights went out on his side’s televised clash with Bala Town.

A floodlight failure at Cae-y-Castell forced the third round clash to be abandoned after just four minutes of play.

The lights in one corner of the ground had initially failed shortly before the start of the game, delaying kick-off by 10 minutes while the lights were reset.

Bala then made a blistering start to the game, taking a second minute lead through Kieran Smith’s volley from the edge of the area.

But after the same floodlights failed for a second time soon afterwards, match referee Rob Jenkins had no choice but to abandon the game.

McGuinness said: “It couldn’t have gone any worse for us, to be honest.

“To go behind to a sloppy goal like that inside the first minute and then for the lights to go down, when it’s never happened before, leaves me really disappointed for the football club.

“It’s a freak occurrence really and I feel sorry for the committee and for the chairman, who’ve put a lot of time into this game.

“I know how much it meant to them to have a televised game here.”

The game will be replayed at Cae-y-Castell tomorrow evening.

Cymru Alliance rivals Bangor City advanced to the fourth round with a comfortable 4-1 home victory over Holyhead Hotspur.

Former The New Saints’ duo Alex Darlington and Robbie Parry bagged a brace apiece for Bangor with John Littlemore netting the Holyhead consolation.

Prestatyn Town were outfought by Welsh Premier side Caernarfon Town, who ran out 3-0 winners at Bastion Road.

Cai Jones (2) and Noah Edwards did the damage for Sean Eardley’s Canaries.

Rhyl claimed an impressive cup upset as they triumphed 2-1 at Newtown.

Gareth Partridge and Aaron Hassell found the back of the net as Rhyl shrugged off Neil Mitchell’s opener midway through the first-half.

Former Airbus youngster Hassell tweeted his delight at causing an upset, writing: “What a result, into the next round of the Welsh cup, nice to finally get on the scoresheet.”

Denbigh Town were beaten by the same score at home to Cambrian & Clydach.

Pat Hincliffe had given Denbigh an early lead, but Cambrian scored twice in the final four minutes through Mark Crutch and Corey Shepherd to secure a hard fought win.
