FLINT PHOENIX A continued their attempt to retain the North East Wales League Division One title with a 6-2 success at Mold A.
Lloyd Tranter and Debbie Walker combined for one of Mold's victories, outlasting David Carnelly and Jude Hughes 21/19, 13/21, 21/19.
There was a mixed bag of results for Llanferres A, who followed up a 5-3 defeat at home to Rossett A with an 8-0 whitewashing of hosts Flint B.
Star performer Danielle Schoneveld and Hazel Davies joined forces for Rossett, beating Sue Clarke and June Lovell 21/11, 21/14, while Flint duo Phil Roberts and Zoe Moorcroft combined to give Llanferres' Figo Man and Jane Givelin a run for their money before losing 22/20, 21/19.
Division Two leaders Buckley were surprisingly beaten 5-3 at Rossett, who grabbed victory courtesy of their strong ladies doubles team.
Undefeated Greg Jones was Buckley's star man, joining forces with Chris Dailey to beat Marie Jones and Dave Lovatt 21/10, 21/13.
Buckley's defeat gave extra encouragement to unbeaten Mold B, who whitewashed Holywell A 8-0.
Liam Hird and James Spendlove were amongst the Mold winners, beating George Hood and Eryl Hooson 21/10, 18/21, 21/9.
All eyes on were on Alun Hughes as he celebrated his 80th birthday in Denbigh B's 5-3 defeat to Llanferres C.
Hughes is one of the founding members of Denbigh Badminton Club, playing for 27 years after joining from Llandyrnog.
Llanferres C followed up that win with an 8-0 thrashing of guests Prestatyn B. Gareth Davies and Sam Harrison were amongst the Llanferres winners, beating Matthew and Adi Jones 21/18, 18/21, 21/19.
In an outstanding Challenge Cup first round tie, Denbigh B got the better of a weakened Holywell B 10-6.
Holywell, who arrived without two players, were given something to celebrate with Hood and Elsie Gregory beating Caeron Jones and Bethan Sian at first mixed 21/19, 21/19.
