COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg praised his side’s overall effort despite their 1-0 home defeat to Ramsbottom United.

The Seagulls turned in a polished display but failed to make the most of the chances they created throughout the contest, and they will look to get their playoff push back on track this Saturday when they travel to Colne on Saturday (3pm).

Hogg, said: “We’ve lost 1-0 against one of the best teams in the league but I don’t think many would have been surprise if we had taken all the points ourselves today.

“It was a strange feeling at full time because I felt that for the first time in the seven weeks I’ve been manager here, that performance today was probably as close to being the ‘most complete’ that I’ve seen from us both from a tactical and individual performance point of view.

“It was a game were the first goal was always going to prove vital and unfortunately we didn’t score it, but that wasn’t for the lack of chances we created.

“We faced and stood up to a number of challenges over the 90 minutes, but we also caused them a number of big problems - it was frustrating that we didn’t capitalise on one of those chances when we had them.

“The mini run we’ve been on is over, but we will go again and try and to put another one together as soon as we can.”

Bay had the best chance of the first half when a great run from his own half by Tom McCready set up Craig Pritchard, who fired wide from just inside the area.

Visiting keeper Sam Ashton made a diving stop from another effort from the lively Pritchard, and Luke Thompson gave United the lead after the break with a close-range header on 65 minutes.

Thompson went from hero to villain when he was sent off after 70 minutes, but the hosts spurned a host of chances in the closing stages to ensure they had nothing to show from an encouraging display.
