JORDAN EVANS praised his team-mates for their battling display at Carmarthen and the midfielder wants Druids to build on that victory against Llanelli at Stebonheath Park on Saturday.

Carmarthen led 2-0 at the break on Saturday but Huw Griffiths’ side mounted a superb comeback in the second half, levelling through Alec Mudimu and Matty Owen before James Davies bagged a late winner.

Former Wrexham man Evans hailed the players’ response to falling behind as ninth placed Druids picked up a vital victory.

“It was a massive comeback,” said Evans, who was an unused substitute.

“Going two-nil down was a bit harsh on us but at the same time, we weren’t really at the races and the two goals we conceded were avoidable.

“But the lads showed great character in the second half to pull it back and James scored the winner which was thoroughly deserved for the second half performance, it was class.”

But Druids were on the receiving end of a fight-back earlier in the season against bottom of the table Llanelli, losing 3-2 from a winning position at The Rock.

Evans wants to make amends in the return match and knows how important it is for Druids to pick up another win to boost their position in the table.

“It’s a big game,” said Evans. “We were 2-0 up against Llanelli second game of the season at home and ended up losing 3-2.

“We need to right the wrongs from that game and get a massive three points again.”

Druids sit seven points behind sixth placed Aberystwyth Town and there are eight games remaining before the league splits in two.

Evans insists it is still possible to secure a top half finish for a second season in a row.

“I don’t think the top six is completely out of reach,” added Evans.

“That was the aim at the start of the season and we were unlucky in a lot of games earlier in the season.

“But after the win at Carmarthen, we got a bit of luck so hopefully we can kick on and get three points at Llanelli to keep rising up the table.”

Druids boss Griffiths ranks August’s home defeat to Llanelli as the club’s biggest disappointment of the season to date and has demanded a more balanced display from his side.

He said: “Throwing away a two-nil first half lead in any game is always disappointing, but the way we lost that game was really poor.

“We didn’t turn up in that second half and the game slipped away from us.

“We’re better than that and we owe it to ourselves to rectify that result in the away game now.”
