CYMRU ALLIANCE leaders Airbus showed no mercy as they demolished Llay Welfare in a 9-1 thumping at the Airfield.

The free-scoring Wingmakers were relentless from the outset, laying siege to the Llay goal with a flurry of attacks.

Curtis Strong fired the hosts ahead inside two minutes, before further strikes from Joe Chaplin and Matty McGinn made it 3-0 before the half hour mark.

A brace late in the half from Lewis Buckley put Steve O’Shaughnessy’s men five up at the interval.

There was no let-up after the break as McGinn bagged his second within a minute of the restart, before James Hooper netted to make it seven soon after.

Alistair Gibson bagged a 64th minute consolation for the Llay, but the hosts responded with another goal for Chaplin.

The rout was completed when Nathan Quirk struck in the 68th minute.

Assistant manager Andy Thomas said: “It was an excellent team performance all round.

“We made plenty of changes, rested a few lads and gave others some game time.

“The attitude was brilliant from everyone and we were impressed with everyone who got their chance.

“Of the 16 players we had involved, none look out of place in the first team, which is a credit to the quality we’ve got here.

“We don’t mind who we get in the third round.

“We’re playing without fear at the moment and we’re trying to get as far as we can in this competition.”

Llay manager Mike Gadie admitted: “It was a very disappointing performance, the occasion seemed to get the better of us.

“No taking it away from Airbus who are a very very good side. I am however proud of the players and their attitudes it just wasn’t to be.”

Buckley Town crashed out of the competition with a 3-1 home defeat to league rivals Denbigh Town.

The visitors were ahead on 10 minutes when Jordan Barrow’s arrowed free-kick from the edge of the box sailed beyond Buckley keeper Joe Makaruk and into the net.

Buckley drew level on the stroke of half-time when Josh Jones reacted quickest to poke the ball home on the rebound after Denbigh keeper Craig Vernon had parried Adam Eden’s initial shot.

The second half was evenly-contested with chances for both sides before ex-Buckley striker Mark Roberts netted against his former side with a neat finish from 10 yards out.

Denbigh sealed victory on 68 minutes when Lewis Sirrell’s 25-yard drive flew into the back of the net.

The dismissal of Denbigh full-back Bailey Jackson five minutes later had no effect on the outcome as the visitors clung to their two-goal margin to advance.

Denbigh joint-manager Matty Jones said:“We went into the game with a game plan and it worked. We showed great character and determination and are looking forward to the draw for the next round.”

Porthmadog ran out 4-1 winners at Llanfair United, while Guilsfield edged a seven-goal thriller to beat Nantlle Vale 4-3.

A hat-trick from Alex Jones steered Prestatyn Town to a 6-3 success against Berriew, Rhyl eased to a 3-1 win over Caersws, while Holyhead Hotspur won by the same score against Ruthin.
