HUW GRIFFITHS believes tomorrow’s trip to Carmarthen Town is “as tough as it gets” for Cefn Druids.

The Ancients make the long trip south without a win in four matches, while the home side ended their barren run with an impressive 4-3 home success over Caernarfon last weekend.

Neil Smothers’ side will also be out for revenge after Druids thumped his Old Gold 4-0 at The Rock back on September 15.

For Griffiths and Druids, that all adds up to a challenging 90 minutes.

“They will want to right the wrongs of last time we played them,” said Griffiths, who saw his side draw 1-1 with Newtown last weekend. “We beat them 4-0 and they will have a point to prove, I’m sure.

“Carmarthen is a tough place to go anyway and they are a different proposition under Neil as they were under Mark Aizlewood.”

Druids ended a long wait for a win at Richmond Park last season as James Davies scored the only goal of the game.

Griffiths continued: “It will be as tough as it gets with them coming into the game on a high.

“But it was similar when we played them earlier in the season. They’d just picked up a big win against Newtown, but we managed to get a result.

“We were exceptional when we played them earlier in the season, and last season was the first time in about 10 years that we’d won at Carmarthen, so we will go there knowing we can get a result.

Druids are ninth in the table, a place and a point above Carmarthen, the side immediately above the drop zone.

Asked whether a quick look at the table altered his thinking going into the game, Griffiths replied: “It’s a ‘must not get beat’ game, but if we win we are four points above them with a much better goal difference.”

Like Griffiths suggested, Old Gold boss Smothers is eager to avenge their heavy defeat at The Rock.

Speaking after the victory over Caernarfon, which made it two games unbeaten for Carmarthen, Smothers said: “The draw with Cardiff Met stopped the rot a little bit and last week builds confidence a little bit more.

“They gave us a good old fashioned ‘going over’ up there, so we will see if we can reverse it when they come down here.”

Druids left-back Neil Ashton, who has missed the last three matches through suspension and injury, will miss the trip due to an additional two-game ban.
