ANDY MORRISON insists that Connah's Quay Nomads deserve to be top of the Welsh Premier League.

Nomads thumped basement outfit Llanelli 6-0 to return to the summit at the expense of reigning champions The New Saints.

And Nomads boss Morrison declared: "Thirteen games in and and it's the right position - it's where we should be.

"Anyone who was at the TNS game, or saw it, will know that was a travesty.

"We are back where we should be at this moment in time.

"After 13 games we are the best team in this league, at this moment in time.

"When we get to 18 games, 22 games, 30 games, we will see then, but at this moment in time we've been the best team this year."

Morrison is not about to start dreaming of wrestling the trophy from Saints' grasp just yet, however, the former Manchester City captain focused on more immediate targets.

"Without boring you, we want 31 points to cement our place in the top six," continued Morrison, whose side have 28 points from 13 outings.

"We then need to position ourselves as close to the 50-point mark as we can by the split and then that gives us a chance to put for that 68-70 which would win the league.

"At the minute, all we are thinking about is getting to that 31 and then we will reassess things.

"Collectively we are playing well, we've got a good squad of players and we're creating an abundance of chances, which is key.

"We've always been a hard working, pragmatic team which is hard to break down and good on set-plays.

"We've maybe had five or six chances a game, but right now we are getting 10, 12 or 15."

Andy Owens, who signed a full-time deal late last week, and Michael Wilde both scored twice for Nomads, the duo denied hat-tricks by dubious offside decisions, while Callum Morris' penalty and a Michael Bakare effort set the ball rolling.

"It's a case of being professional and ruthless," said Morrison, who saw the visitors travel with 12 players, the one substitute a goalkeeper, who was forced to come on in attack due to injury to Resat Islam Khaton.

"In the first 15 minutes we were lackadaisical, but once we got the second goal it was about whether we could get three, four or five and maybe six, seven, eight, nine or ten because we were on top and creating so many opportunities.

"It's very, very difficult for them - it's difficult for any team - to stop that barrage.

"They've had to bring in five or six of their youngsters and we were professional in what we did.

"If we were ruthless it really could have been embarrassing, but their goalkeeper was a giant for them.

"It's a fair reflection on the game. Give them credit because they didn't buckle or give up."
