NEIL GIBSON has swapped life at the top of the Welsh Premier League with Connah's Quay Nomads for a return to Cymru Alliance strugglers Prestatyn Town.

Gibson ended a 12-year stay at his hometown club to join Nomads as first team coach early this year, but the lure of a return to Prestatyn as manager proved too strong to turn down.

On taking back the reins at Prestatyn, who sit second from bottom in the Cymru Alliance, Gibson said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me come back to my hometown club, and one that I couldn’t walk away from considering the situation the club is in.

"With the backing of the new owners and the support of the fans, I believe Prestatyn Town can and will return to where it belongs.

"It’s an exciting challenge, and the hard work has to start right away. We need to set the standards that are demanded by myself and this football club.

"The values associated with Prestatyn Town need to be restored, and the fans need a team that they can be proud of, who will give everything on the pitch."

Nomads boss Andy Morrison was disappointed to lose Gibson, but understood his decision to return to Bastion Gardens.

Morrison said: "It was impossible for Gibbo to turn down the chance to go back to Prestatyn - the decision was made from the heart so there was no point in me trying to change his mind.

"The Prestatyn that Gibbo goes back to is a totally different one to the one he left. A new board has taken over and there's a real ambition to take the club back to the glory days they experienced under his previous tenure.

"I'd personally like to thank him for his professionalism and commitment in his time at the club and wish him all the best in the future."

Gibson was grateful for his time at Nomads, who he helped win the Welsh Cup and qualify for the Europa League.

He added: "It was a difficult decision to leave Connah’s Quay, who are deservedly top of the Welsh Premier League table.

"I would to thank everyone at the club for the opportunity, in particular Andy Morrison - whom I have enjoyed learning from and working alongside.

"I have gained a lot of insight into why Nomads have been so successful in recent years, and I wish them all the best for the season.”
