CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS showed they mean business by winning 3-1 at Cardiff Met to return to the top of the table.

Callum Morris and Declan Poole put Nomads two goals to the good, but Rhys Thomas hit back for Met to leave the game finely poised at the break.

Nomads were not to be denied a crucial victory, however, Andy Owens heading his side's third goal of the game to see off Cardiff Met, who had thumped The New Saints 4-1 a week earlier.

Andy Morrison was proud of his Nomads, declaring: "It was a terrific win.

"We are in a good space at the moment, we are playing really well, we're being brave with our formations, we are asking questions and we are stopping teams playing against us.

"It's the correct result because we've boxed it off. If we are a little bit more clinical we could have had a couple of goals more."

TNS briefly regained control of top spot on Saturday courtesy of a 3-0 win at Carmarthen Town.

Second-half strikes from Jamie Mullan, Greg Draper and Kurtis Byrne did the damage for Scott Ruscoe's visitors.

Striker Draper, who made his first start of the campaign, said: "It was nice to get one and I could have had a couple more.

"It was nice to get back in the team and I was pleased with my overall performance, not just the goal."

Newtown climbed into third spot after beating fellow high-flyers Barry Town United 2-0.

Joe Kenton scored a goal in both first-half and second-half stoppage time for Chris Hughes' Robins.

A level-headed Hughes said: β€œIt was three points against an excellent team and we can take heart from it, but this means nothing next week, we need to go again.”

Bala Town lost more ground on the frontrunners after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Caernarfon.

Danny Brookwell twice put the Canaries in-front, but Chris Venables and then Steve Tames earned Bala a share of the spoils.

At the foot of the table, Llanelli picked up a timely second win of the season by beating Llandudno 2-1.

James Loveridge's opener was cancelled out by Mike Pearson, but Jordan Follows made sure of the points for Llanelli.
