HUW GRIFFITHS saluted Cefn Druids as they produced a performance reminiscent of last season's best-ever top-flight campaign to beat Llandudno 2-1.

Both teams went into the televised encounter without a win from their opening three matches, but Druids returned to their battling best to secure the three points.

Dean Rittenberg saw his opener cancelled out as Steve Thomas' cross avoided his team mates but found the back of the Druids' net.

But Druids were not to be denied a crucial win as Nathan Peate powered home a header just before the hour mark to secure the points.

Griffiths was delighted with what he saw, saying: "It was the Cefn Druids of old. We were questioned a little bit, but we've put that to rest with the win.

"We now need to make sure we get back to doing it week in, week out and the players will know that.

"There is plenty of big words branded about by managers looking to reinvent the game, but basically it boils down to your lads wanting to 'have a go', wanting to win."

Griffiths, who conceded that he thought 'here we go again' momentarily as Thomas' cross sailed in to draw Llandudno level, was impressed by how his side shrugged off their opening three defeats to win under pressure.

"We are back to normal now," continued Griffiths. "We are three points off the top five and four points away from the top three.

"It will be a tough old season, but we are up and running. Any team is only one game away from changing the momentum and we've done that.

"The most pleasing thing for me was how much the players wanted to win. They had that physicality and intensity in the second-half to make sure we got the points."

Nick Rushton scored both goals as Bala Town suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Newtown.

Rushton scored once in either half courtesy of assists from Joe Kenton and Steve Leslie, much to the frustration of Bala defender Anthony Miley.

“It’s a poor day at the office,” said Miley. “It was a big game after winning late last week, but we conceded poor goals.”

Carmarthen Town also won 2-0 as goals from Liam Thomas and Mael Davies secured a home success over Cardiff Met, while Aberystwyth Town came from a goal down to win 3-1 against Llanelli Town.

James Loveridge continued his fine start to the campaign with the opener, but Aberystwyth scored twice inside three minutes just after the hour mark through Rio Ahmadi and Geoff Kellaway before Joe Phillips made sure of the points.
