WREXHAM have signed centre-back Jake Lawlor on a two-year deal from National League rivals Salford City FC for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old only signed for newly promoted Salford in the summer from Guiseley but with chances limited with the Ammies, he opted to join Wrexham on transfer deadline day, with Sam Ricketts ensuring he has cover for injured defender Manny Smith.

An almost ever-present in his five years with Guiseley, Lawlor joined AFC Fylde in February 2018 and helped the Coasters reach the play-offs before moving on to Salford.

Lawlor told Wrexham's official website: “You can see here today, joining on match day, there are loads of fans here with shirts on, it’s a big club.

“I can’t wait to get started and help get the club promoted out of this league.

“I’m here to win games. I have experience of getting promotion in the past and that will help. The club have shown trust in me with a two-year deal and that’s really good for us both.”

Manager Samuel Ricketts added “We’re pleased to bring Jake in to the club which continues to strengthen the side that we’ve built here.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience as well as adding more talent to the back-line, and more competition can only be a healthy thing for the team.

“Jake is a talented player who can add that bit extra for us, whilst it’s important going forward that we have players ready to step up and depth in the side will be vital going into the winter months in what is a long hard campaign”.

Lawlor, 27, has worked his way though the ranks during his career with the Yoskshireman beginning life in the Northern Premier with Ossett Town.

Midway though the 2012/13 season he moved on to Nethermoor Park to play for Guiseley where he experienced great success in earning promotion from the National League North, scoring the winning goal in the play-off final back in 2014.

An almost ever-present for Guiseley in his five years, we was an integral part of the side that maintained their place in non-league’s top tier. Jake may be familiar to Wrexham fans after his goal in a 2-3 Dragons win in Yorkshire back in August 2016.

In February 2018 he would head for pastures new, signing on loan for AFC Fylde for the remainder of the 2017/18 season making his debut in a 1-3 win over Barrow at Holker Street. He was a large factor in Fylde reaching the play-offs at the end of the season, but they would eventually lose out to Boreham Wood.

In the summer of 2018 Jake opted to sign for newly promoted Salford City, however, with chances limited early on opted to join Wrexham on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee.
