LUKE SUMMERFIELD jumped at the chance to join Wrexham after speaking with manager Sam Ricketts.

The 30-year-old midfielder has penned a one-year deal at The Racecourse and becomes Ricketts' third new signing of the summer.

Summerfield has played in for the Football League for Plymouth Argyle, AFC Bournemouth, Leyton Orient, Cheltenham Town, Shrewsbury Town, York City, and Grimsby Town, who he left at the end of last season after rejecting a contract offer.

Talks progressed well with Ricketts, who is taking his first steps in management, and Summerfield is looking forward to a new challenge with Wrexham.

"It has been a long process like every signing is but the last couple of days I have met the gaffer and it has gone really well," said Summerfield. "I am really happy to get it over the line.

"There was a few things here and there but when this come about, and speaking to the manager, I really enjoyed our chat.

"I really liked his thoughts and I am really looking forward to working with him and the season ahead.

"I really want to be part of this football club. It is a massive club, I know players that have played here and I know lads that are here at the moment.

"Speaking with the staff and the manager, I know I have made the right decision.

"I can't speak highly enough of the club so far and what I have heard, and I can't wait to get started."
