AN INSPIRATIONAL Wrexham woman with terminal cancer is having her hair shaved for the "angels" at Nightingale House Hospice who have cared for her.

Denise Cross, 62, was visiting her daughter, Katherine, in Gibraltar in September 2020 when she was diagnosed with metastatic kidney cancer - which had sadly spread to her lungs, liver and brain, resulting in a terminal diagnosis.

After spending six weeks in and out of hospital in Gibraltar and receiving radiotherapy in Malaga, Denise returned back to the UK where she started chemotherapy treatment.

But just over a week later she was told the chemotherapy wasn’t working and was tragically given just days to live.

Denise, from Marchwiel, was admitted to Nightingale House Hospice in February for pain management and has defied the odds to be alive some six months after she was told she just days to live.

She was discharged from the hospice and went to live with Katherine and her grandchildren - but was readmitted to Nightingale House for further pain management treatment in May, where she's been since.

And on Wednesday night, Denise will be braving the shave to give something back to the hospice - which runs its service completely free of charge.

She said: "I want to do this to give something back because I want to let all staff at Nightingale House know what angels they are; from the housekeepers, cooks, nurses, health care support workers and anyone else I haven’t mentioned - they are all angels.

"Please give generously - every pound really does make a difference. It costs £10,000 to run the hospice for a day and I would like to do as much as I can to contribute to that amount.

"Many thanks in advance for any donations and helping me achieve one of my last wishes."

Denise's daughter, Katherine, added: "We're so incredibly proud of her - she's an inspiration and hero to us all.

"She's an absolutely amazing example to her grandchildren. Nightingale House has been absolutely incredible so please help my mum's final wish come true."

The fundraiser launched on Monday and Denise has already wracked up nearly £4,000 in generous donations.
